Rockin' History | Mondays & Wednesdays at 11 AM & 11 PM | Weekends at 10 AM
Does music reflect the times or do the times inspire the music? Rockin’ History attempts to answer this question by examining the connection between the classic rock songs of the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s and the political, economic and social events of the time to see how they are interrelated. So sit back, grab a cup of coffee and join your host Cindy Schwartz every Monday and Wednesday at 11am for a new and more relaxed way to learn about our glorious and at times, tumultuous past.
Cindy Schwartz comes to radio via a long and extremely rewarding career as a Long Island high school history teacher. She loved every minute of teaching, but was sad that curriculum requirements and time constraints didn’t allow for opportunities to focus on the kind of political, economic and social history she knew kids wanted to learn. Aligning history with the music of different historical time periods always seemed to encourage her students to want to learn more. So, hoping to make history fun for her students and others, Cindy began writing the first of what would be many “Rockin’ History shows that would highlight the years 1960-1990 in American history with a emphasis on events, people and trends that history classes didn’t have enough time for or didn’t think were important. For example, you can tune into “Rockin’ History” one day and hear a show about the importance of The Gulf of Tonkin Incident that occurred during the time of the Vietnam War or you can tune in another day and listen to the history surrounding the birth of the VW Beetle or the Radio Flyer children’s wagon. Regardless of when you listen, Cindy’s brand of history story-telling coupled with classic rock music makes for a history lesson that listeners can relate to, find interesting and hopefully, learn from. As the writer, host, and creator of each musical playlist for each show, Cindy is able to bring history alive in a way that you always hoped your history teacher would!
